Our History

Established in the 17th century, the Township of Bloomfield has a long and storied history.  Beginning as a small farming community, the industrial revolution, urbanization, and immigration have positively impacted the growth and development of the town. Bloomfield’s history can be seen through several buildings around town—Bloomfield High School, Bloomfield Presbyterian Church, Bloomfield College, Bloomfield Station and even the Royal are all monuments to the town’s past.

Paying tribute to the historic Stern’s Royal Theatre in both its design and name, The Royal, located directly in the heart of downtown Bloomfield, consists of 14 two-story townhomes available for purchase, as well as 199 apartment units available for lease.  The theatre was built in 1926 by Joseph Stern and was one of the most popular theatres in the Newark area at the time.
